I've been meaning to write but I've been too busy roasting! The drum is working great and you were right, once it gets seasoned and "settled in" it just keeps getting better. I've also become more adept at controlling the heat and of course the movements of getting the drum in and out
quickly become more second nature as you go along. I've been turning out some excellent roasts and have been able to hit the roasts just where I want them whether it's for a dark roast or a beautiful City+ or Full City on an island coffee.
Taking the ceramic briquettes out madeall the difference in the world as far as being able to reach roast temps faster, bring my roast times down to where they should be and to better control temps during the roast. It's funny since I had thought it would be easier to do all that with the briquettes. I haven't gotten the steel plate made yet and am still using the cookie sheet. It's working fine so I may just leave it.

Is totally awesome! I roasted 2 pounds of coffee this afternoon after receiving your drum.
The first 2 pounds turned out near perfect! You have definitely taken home roasting to a new level. The quality of your drum was exceptional. I must say the quality was far above what I had expected. I can now look forward to roasting at home. I had been dreading roasting, because I could only do 1/3 cup batches before with my air roaster. It took me about 8-10 batches to roast enough for the Mrs. and I for the week. Chris Hartman
Hi Ron,
I received the Drum and Motor setup on Thursday, I had
to make a few adjustments to get it level and in line
on my Weber grill, took about 10 minutes and then let
the drum burn in for about 15 minutes.
Today (Saturday) I did two roasts, the first roast was
a little over done but the second roast came out very
nice. Each roast was 1 pound. It is going to take
some practice with roast times and getting the drum
into the grill without losing too much heat and
getting the beans into the cooling tray but I think
after 3 or 4 roasts I should have it down.
The motor is very quiet and I have no problem hearing
the first crack.
I am pleased with the drum and motor and look forward
to many roasts, you have a great product.

Nice unit. This is built sturdy and should last forever. Unfortunately I dropped motor unit while installing and crushed the plastic fan. I will epoxy it together and see if it runs without shaking. You did a wonderful job on the parts no sharp edges and even the drilled holes have no burs. You must have been a machinist or an engineer or just one talented guy. I am not used to seeing quality with everything made in china now a days.
