I posted a short review on coffe geek about your roaster. Hope things are going well. I want to add a chain to mine. What do I get that won’t melt at 500 degrees? It’s one of those questions that creates weird stares at Home Depot. The motor you suggested works great!! Love those RPM’s. I will attach a photo of my set up & email it soon. You know what I would love to see? some sort of catch, so I don’t have to pull the pin to view the roast. Something with a sprind that I could press with my oven mitt, and the door would just flip down. Of course I’m splitting hairs here, the roaster is superb.

Good thought Jason, and thanks for the reveiw, I will be looking forward to the pictures of your set up, glad the motor is working out for you. Grainger, or Surplus where you bought the motor sells chain. and sprockets. get the steel sprocket for the top by the hot grill. Of course you will be able to adjust speeds with different sprockets if you like. The local hardware store ACE Hardware sells sprockets and chain. 0-80 or 0-40 should work ok. Are you planning to mount your motor below and run a chain up to a sub shaft mounted in brgs. so you will be able to remove the grill without removing the sprocket?
When I was designing and testing the drum, I tried several door combinations. I had trouble with a spring retaing its integrity, but thought about a clip on the top, that was made of spring steel, but it to lost its integrity. Thus the clip. I also thought of a site glass, but they were exspensive, I’m still considering a small sliding door in the side of the drum, but this to would add material and labor, thus more exspensive. All in All I believe I can not improve the drum without adding cost. But I’m open to suggestions and continue to brain storm new ideas that come in my head daily.
